Few fictional characters need an introduction less than Spock, so it’s only fitting to learn how Star Trek Online is using the IP’s 60th anniversary to commemorate the iconic character with the upcoming release of the Rediscovered update, which promises to take players on a journey through Spock’s life.
Play Star Trek Online for freeThe new update was part of the celebratory livestream held by Cryptic, which offered the teaser trailer below as well as some initial details for the content. While story details were obviously a bit thin, the devs did confirm that there will be three versions of Spock represented, with Ethan Peck playing as Spock from Strange New Worlds, Poitr Michael playing as Captain Spock from Star Trek VI, and archived voice over work from Leonard Nimoy to bring TOS Spock back. This update will arrive to PC players on Tuesday, September 22nd, and to consoles on Tuesday, November 10th.
In addition to all of the Spock goodness, the devs also confirmed a new episode that takes place in 2409, the ability to gift select bundles, and the tease of a new way for players to get their hands on a Strange New Worlds version of the Enterprise, which can have its pieces applied to other skeletons of the Constitution-class starship.
Finally, a roadmap was presented that peeks all the way ahead into February 2027, with returning TFOs and events, some “experimental graphical improvements” that mostly focus on lighting and fog, new legendary veteran destroyers, and the next season that brings the MMO’s 17th anniversary, new deep space content, a new TFO feature, and the first Tier 7 reputation.
Speaking of anniversaries for STO, Cryptic is marking the 10th anniversary of the MMORPG’s release on consoles with a free key ring bundle that has 10 master keys and an ultimate tech upgrade for Xbox and PlayStation fans. This freebie can be claimed from now until September 22nd.
