How are you supposed to draw a monster when all you’ve got to work with is a description like a formless chaos spilling blasphemous bubbles? Miskatonic University Art Club lets you explore how. It’s a new online drawing and guessing game from Asobibakurousagi. The game is out now on Android, alongside Windows and Mac.

Miskatonic University Art Club revolves around the Cthulhu Mythos

It’s the fictional universe that grew out of the works of American author H. P. Lovecraft. If you’re familiar with Lovecraft’s stories, you already know that his creatures aren’t the easiest things to imagine, let alone draw.

So, in Miskatonic University Art Club, you join an art club whose job is to illustrate the Necronomicon. It’s a fictional grimoire filled with descriptions of all sorts of horrible Mythos creatures.

You might read something about countless indescribable appendages sticking out of a creature’s body and twisting around. Another description might talk about a formless chaos spilling blasphemous bubbles.

As a member of the club, you’ll receive the name of a Mythos creature along with a written description of what it supposedly looks like. The catch is that only you get to see that description. Everyone else has to figure out what you’ve drawn without knowing the answer beforehand.

It’s fun!

Matches run for five rounds, with players drawing creatures and guessing the subjects of other members’ illustrations. Once everyone finishes drawing, all the pictures are shown without their creature names, and you’ll have to match each one with the correct Mythos creature.

You earn points for every creature you correctly identify, as well as for every player who correctly guesses the creature in your own drawing. After all five rounds, whoever has the highest overall score gets crowned the club’s Outstanding Member.

Miskatonic University Art Club has two modes. You can create a private room, share its room code with friends and customize things like drawing tools, time limits and other rules. Or you can jump into Random Match and let the game find other players automatically. Both modes support 2–8 players.

Get Miskatonic University Art Club from the Google Play Store for $2.99.
