LOTRO Testers Explore Gifts and Quests in Neighbours Beta

Standing Stone Games has begun testing Update 49.6 for The Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO), giving Bullroarer testers their first hands-on look at the Neighbours system tied to the upcoming Wolves of Mordor expansion. The studio opened the beta this week on the official test server, according to the LOTRO forums.

The feature isn't fully functional yet, but testers can already summon a neighbour to talk with, give and receive gifts, and work through a rotating panel of daily quests. Standing Stone Games noted that two neighbours in particular, Brútha and Emmathron, are expected to unlock personal quests as players build up their relationship with them - a system that reads more like a companion-driven social loop than a straightforward housing add-on.

This follows recent Bullroarer testing work on Lua scaling compatibility, another piece of the technical groundwork Standing Stone Games has been laying ahead of the expansion.

What Testers Can Do Right Now

• Test build: Update 49.6 is live on the Bullroarer test server.
• Visitors: Players can summon a neighbour and interact with them directly.
• Gifts: Gift-giving works in both directions between player and neighbour.

Standing Stone Games is also kicking off a preview series for Wolves of Mordor, with developers fielding community questions as the expansion's systems move from concept to testable build. Given the feature's current state, expect further tuning before Neighbours reaches live servers.
